The Tenfold Monthly
October 2025
Hello,
The administration’s new $100,000 H-1B visa fee could spell real trouble for both the sell-side and buy-side when it comes to finding talent. For years, H-1B sponsorship has allowed firms to hire highly skilled professionals, often sharp and ambitious individuals. While hiring today isn’t back to 2021 levels, it could rebound. And if it does, firms will face a choice: compromise on pedigree or pay the higher price.
There’s been chatter on forums like WSO that this will force firms to lower their standards. That seems highly unlikely. Most firms will pay for quality.
That debate is unfolding as fundraising headlines crowd the front half of Q4. After a quiet August, we saw a surge of fundraising announcements in September, including those from Peak Rock, Great Hill, One Equity, Pennybacker, Aurora, Greenpoint, and others. On paper, it looks like momentum. In reality, these are firm-specific wins, not a broad market recovery.
According to Private Equity International, global fundraising in the twelve months to June totaled just $592 billion, the weakest since 2018. And it’s showing in how firms are hiring: execution roles remain slow. Most activity this year has been in capital formation, investor relations, and marketing, especially at the mid-to-senior level, where competition for experienced fundraisers is intensifying.
Meanwhile, secondaries continue to accelerate.
Blackstone closed the largest infra secondaries fund ever at $5.5 billion. HarbourVest added $865 million. GP-leds, continuation vehicles, and asset-specific transactions are now the front end of capital strategy.
The Fed’s rate cut won’t change things overnight, but it does remove a major mental overhang.
More visibility means greater conviction, and nowhere is that more evident than in power.
GIP is set to acquire AES in a $38 billion transaction, one of the largest power deals ever involving a U.S.-listed utility. Sempra also announced a strategic transaction with KKR. The capital is flowing where the demand is clear, and the power demand has never been more tangible.
We’ve seen this power demand firsthand. This month, we completed our fourth placement in just over 12 months with a major PE player in the space, and we're continuing to see momentum. Below, you’ll find two new searches in renewable power—one at the VP level, another at Associate. If you're looking to make a move or want to get on our radar, reach out.
Below, you’ll find the latest news, trends, and capital shifts as we kick off the final quarter of the year.
Let’s dive in.

No respondents saw firms moving earlier than usual or a major sell-side push into PE. The takeaway? Hiring may be happening, but it’s highly targeted.
